Panel discussion: Uncomfortable heritage? The Rediscovery of German History in Szczecin
For decades, the German heritage of the city of Szczecin in Poland was considered something to be forgotten. In democratic Poland, however, civil society has gradually approached and embraced this history. Whether through the preservation of monuments, the restoration of German graves or the publication of German family histories from Stettin, the German cultural heritage of Szczecin has been revalued in recent years. We will discuss the ‘post-German’ in the Pomeranian metropolis with actors from this local landscape of remembrance and present exciting civil society initiatives of recent years.
