Libraries and Archives as Third Places - Lecture and panel discussion with Aat Vos and Volker Heller
Libraries and Archives as Third Places - Places of Encounter, Learning and Inspiration
Lecture and panel discussion with Aat Vos and Volker Heller
Far too often, libraries and archives are often overseen in existing museum and exhibition facilities. Yet they play a major role in conveying and deepening socially relevant topics, create space for conversations and enable social, cultural and digital participation. In the Documentation Centre, the reading room of the Library & Contemporary Witness Archive has become a special place. The Dutch architect and creative guide Aat Vos from the office includi presents the idea of the Third Place, explains his concept and the development process behind such a design. On the podium, Volker Heller, Director General of the Central and Regional Library Berlin, and Gundula Bavendamm, Director of the Documentation Centre, will discuss with Aat Vos their experiences in daily practice. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for exchange with the contributors to this design process in the reading room.
