Tracing Home

Film workshop on the occasion of 45 years of boat people in Germany
Sunday, 17 November 2024, 2–5 pm

What does it mean to lose your home and how do you arrive in a foreign country? Millions of refugees experience loss and new beginnings – including the people from Vietnam who fled to Germany as boat people 45 years ago. In her award-winning short film Xanh (German Short Film Award 2023), filmmaker Thi Dang An Tran tells the story of her father's escape and also addresses experiences of discrimination after arriving in Germany. Together with the filmmaker, we watch her film and ask: How do we tell stories about our lives? And what experiences connect us? Afterwards, we create our own short films using simple means.

No previous knowledge is required. The workshop will be held in English, German and Vietnamese and is open to everyone.
The film workshop is part of a series of events organised by the Friedland Museum, the Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion, Reconciliation and the Gnadenkirche Tidofeld Documentation Centre.

Admission is free.
